THE SPANISH LOVE DECEPTION

Catalina Martín, finally, not single. Her family is happy to announce that she will bring her American boyfriend to her sister's wedding. Everyone is invited to come and witness the most magical event of the year.

That would certainly be tomorrow's headline in the local newspaper of the small Spanish town I came from. Or the epitaph on my tombstone, seeing the turn my life had taken in the span of a phone call.

Four weeks wasn't a lot of time to find someone willing to cross the Atlantic-from NYC and all the way to Spain-for a wedding. Let alone, someone eager to play along my charade. But that didn't mean I was desperate enough to bring the 6'4 blue eyed pain in my ass standing before me.

Aaron Blackford. The man whose main occupation was making my blood boil had just offered himself to be my date. Right after inserting his nose in my business, calling me delusional, and calling himself my best option. See? Outrageous. Aggravating. Blood boiling. And much to my total despair, also right. Which left me with a surly and extra large dilemma in my hands. Was it worth the suffering to bring my colleague and bane of my existence as my fake boyfriend to my sister's wedding? Or was I better off coming clean and facing the consequences of my panic induced lie?

WRITING!

If you are looking for a quick and cute read, this book is for you. It is trope upon tropes galore. I mean how many can you fit in one entire book? I did have trouble with the male character. I could tell from the beginning, even through his “hatred” that he had feelings for our main character, Catalin Martin. But his character had a weird switch up after a few chapters. He suppressed his feelings, never made flirtatious comments and then wham bam thank you maam out of the blue he starts whispering naughty things. As much as I love dirty talk, this was out of pocket for me.

There wasn’t really much of a plot to follow, being bounced around from one trope to another it was hard to follow.

But still I preserved through the book and enjoyed it

HOT or NOT?

How many times can one mention BLUE EYES? We get it!! This was the biggest pet peeve of mine all throughout the book. It’s like the author had to mention his eyes every page to the point I could have turned it into a drinking game. As tempting as that was I did stay sober while reading.

Did Aaron have nothing else to offer as a character other than being stunning and having blue eyes? Of course he did. He was sweet and caring and never once let jealousy get the best of him.

Catalina on the other hand… I had a really hard time relating to her character. She didn’t date for six years or have SEX. SEX! For Six Years! I get it, she was burned by the last guy she was in a serious relationship with, but it seemed unrealistic she would have never once done a one night stand, to get over someone you have to get under someone else. Or that's what movies, and books tell me.

As always, I do recommend forming your own opinion, so there is a direct link to the book up above. And I always welcome feedback on my own critique as I’m not always right.

  1. Hi, nice review! I read this book recently, and I agree that the author mentioned Aaron's blue eyes too much.
